Read: 2 Timothy 4:1-9

The  students that the author speaks of in today’s reading have began to astray and teachers are warned that they must stay the course and bring the students back into the flock.  At the very least they must keep themselves on the correct path in their mission to evangelize.  Today’s students aren’t far from that course themselves.  The only way we keep the flock gathered is through engagement.

Kids are very astute when it comes to seeing through a smoke screen.  In order to engage a student, they must believe that there is a benefit to participating in your lesson.  In order to gain that belief, students first have to trust that you have their best interests at heart.  Today’s students don’t trust us just because we have “educator” on our name tag as a title.  They will only trust us if we are truthful and sincere with them.  Otherwise they will listen to and react to any little stimulus that comes along.  Be truthful and sincere, kids will follow.

Pray:  Lord, truth and sincerity are two of the most important words that can be used and applied in a classroom.  In order to fully educate a young person they must trust me.  Help me to gain their trust by always being truthful and sincere.
